Mazel Tov! This Year is The New Shul's B'Mitzvah. Help Us Celebrate!

We’re turning 13 and we’re throwing ourselves a B’Mitzvah party. Here are some simple, easy ways to get involved!

  • Participate in our signature cocktail contest: Whether you’re a master mixologist or yousimply like to dabble with a bit of this and a smidgen of that - we challenge you to create The New Shul’s Signature Cocktail! The friendly competition (cocktail and mocktail divisions) will take place at the beginning of the event. You provide the ingredients and the Tom Cruise moves, all guests will get a taste and vote for the winner. Champs get a trophy and bragging rights!

  • Buy tickets! The invites are going out very soon. RSVP and bring your friends.

  • Help us solicit items for our raffle to mind the gap between tuition and our expenses to run our fabulous educational programs at The New Shul: Have a favorite coffee shop, nail salon, or restaurant in the neighborhood? We bet you do, so why not ask them if they’d like to help us by donating gift certificates or other items to our raffle.

  • Volunteer to help us make sure the party goes smoothly: to make our space beautiful and keep in that way, we will need volunteers to help with set up/decorating, during the event, and to stay and help with clean up. The event is on Saturday, May 5th from 4-7pm, so if you are around to help a little at any time, we would appreciate it!
For more information on any of the above contact us at the office. Mazel tov to all of us for reaching this special simcha!

Project Ezra Needs Our Help

We will be joining forces again this year with Project Ezra delivering food boxes to the Jewish elderly on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The food boxes will contain all the ingredients the seniors will need for a kosher Passover. In addition to just dropping off the food, you have a chance to bring a smile to the door as you greet (and hug) this homebound population.

Sunday, April 1st
Start Time - 9:30am
Project Ezra
465 Grand Street
New York, NY 10002

All volunteers should have a car or join forces with someone who does. You will need a car to deliver the packages - it is too far to walk. If you can help, please RSVP directly to Dalia at 212-982-4124. Thanks!

Join Us for Our March Shabbat on Tap!

This Month's Topic is THE ART OF ARGUING

What was your most recent argument? Who was it with? Did you “win” the argument? Why or why not?
We all argue. We argue with friends, co-workers, colleagues, partners, and family members. In short, we argue with almost anyone. Some of us, clearly, are better at arguing than others.
The Rabbis of the Talmud had probably some of the best arguments in history. What made some of them so good at arguing? What can we learn from them to help us become even more effective in our own arguments?
Come and we will learn together over a beer, or beverage of your choice, how to become better at arguing, and ever more effective in our own arguments.
I look forward to seeing you this Friday evening, March 16th at 7:00pm at Honey (14th St. between 7th Ave and 8th Ave).
Kindness & Shalom,
Rabbi Darby J. Leigh

March 4th Rebbe's Table with Rebecca Newberger Goldstein

This past Sunday March 4th, Rabbi Dan was joined at The Rebbe's Table at City Winery by author, philosopher, and thinker Rebecca Newberger Goldstein. We all enjoyed her insights, humor, and wisdom regarding God, spirituality, faith, and gaining greater understanding of life and of the universe. Here are some great pictures from those who joined us.

Thanks again to Rabbi Dan Ain and Dr. Goldstein for leading this wonderful discussion.
